Describe the setting, not only a label
Terms such as “formal” can mean different things to different guests. Tell people whether the evening includes dinner, outdoor paths, stairs, dancing, or a change of location. Share any chapter-specific expectations without implying that one outfit is required for everyone.
- Give examples of dress level in inclusive language.
- Flag outdoor surfaces and expected temperature.
- State whether a coat check or place to change is available.
Keep arrival details with attire details
An invitation should pair dress guidance with arrival time, address, transport, and lodging information. A guest should not need to reconstruct the itinerary from separate social posts. Review the wording with someone who has not been in the planning meetings.
